hey all i'm new here, and to guinea pigs. i first got Tallulah Lemon...then a week later Honeybell...who turned out to be preggers, so now i also have Valencia and Meringue! LuLu Lemon and HB are about 14-16ish wks, and V&M are just 5 days old.

Rescue/Fostering - pregnant two sows

I've been fostering small animals for over 4 years now, and this is the first time I'm going to be taking care of babies; I'm so excited!!!! For this one, the two rescued sows are pregnant. I don't know how far along they are, and neither does the rescue. I will be picking up the little dears (no older than 6 months themselves) and am reading up on labor & delivery on Guinea Lynx. Has anyone out there had experience in this area that would be beneficial to me?

I've owned guinea pigs for over 10 years and I've never had one as challenging as Bijou. I gave him the French name for "gem" not knowing how sophisticated he'd turn out to be!

Jou Jou (zhu zhu) obsessively bites anything and everything he can get his teeth onto. Yes I know its natural to bite, but he just doesn't stop. I am becoming convinced that he's bored and I haven't found a way to help him out. He's the fussiest pig I've ever had...

I've noticed something going on for a while now. My pig's ear seems dry & flaky (almost like an ashy consistency to the skin in flakiness) on the back side of both his ears. It used to be just one, but now it's on the back of both of them. Eating apples

I have a male guinea pig just over a year and he weighs 4 lbs.. I know he is really fat because even the vet said so. I am just wondering what should I do to get him to lose weight? I give him a lot of timothy hay and pellets.. He has a big cage and can run around but tends to yawn and lay all the time.. He only gets up to eat/drink. My 3 year old Bart started losing weight over the summer, but he was eating up a storm, looked great, and was full of energy. In little time he became a rack of bones, but was still full of energy...a little too full. Turns out, Bart is hyperthyroid..a condition that isn't common in GPs, but seems to be showing up a little bit more. Bart is going to have his condition treated on Tuesday with an injection of radioactive iodine, the same treatment that they use on hyperthyroid cats....

I've had my guinea for about a month now. He's the first one I've ever owned. He is the coolest little animal ever. He's very laid back and LOVES to go to work with me.
