I've had my guinea for about a month now. He's the first one I've ever owned. He is the coolest little animal ever. He's very laid back and LOVES to go to work with me. I work at a newspaper so I take his cage and let him crawl around my desk. He also loves the dog, Nila, and often popcorns over her! He seems relatively happy and never shows signs of being mad/hurt but he ALWAYS makes a sound that's similar to what a lot of people are making out to be bad. Is it possible...

Pine bedding?

Hi! As I was reading through the posts I saw it recommended to use pine bedding. It's my understanding that pine and cedar are bad for our piggies because of the phenols in them. Is this not true?

Working with Image Galleries

When managing an Image Gallery, how do you attach a picture to the icon representing the Gallery? IE, I have a gallery of pics of my piggies, & I would like to have an image show up on the icon. Is that possible? Thanks!!!!

Won't eat veggies

We have tried several different veggies, but she won't eat them. She's only 10 weeks old, is she too young? We've tried raisins, grapes, tomato, green pepper, carrot. Is there some trick to getting her to eat them? We've put them in her feed bowl and we've just laid them in the cage. We've also put them in her free range area. Still no eating of veggies. Help! We know she needs them. Also, I've seen a Vit C tablet for cavies. Should we try it?

leaky water bottle

Is there some trick to using a water bottle without it leaking? When I was a kid we always had leaky water bottles and I blamed my mom thinking she was buying cheap water bottles. With this in mind, I purchased the most expensive water bottle I could find and as soon as I hung it up it started leaking. I purchased a second water bottle and yes it too was a leaker. Is it me am I hanging them wrong or filling them to full? Any info would be greatly...

Different shaped snouts

We are so astounded at how sweet they are!! But I was wondering something. Our black piggie has a very stubby nose/face. After days (and days) of research and learning about them, I think this is the standard face shape. Our white one, though, has a more ratty appearance, with a longer, pointer nose. Yay!! Our piggies came home yesterday!! I've turned a bird cage (3x3x18") on it's side and made the top open and shut hinge style. I currently have the cage tray covering one half of the floor filled with carefresh. The other half is covered by two rubber bathtub mats, covered with hay. Allergies

I recently adopted two piggies who I love and adore. For a few frightening days I thought I might be allergic to them. Fortunately I am not. Unfortunately I am very allergic to Timothy hay. A friend of mine suggested using compressed timothy cubes because they produce less dust. This is working well for me, but I worry about the girls not getting proper nutrition. Does anyone know if the cubes are an acceptable alternative to the loose hay?

I bought my daughter her {and my} first piggy about 2 weeks ago and he's doing pretty good. but I have 2 keep refilling his food bowl! we're up 2 3-4 times a day
we also give him timothy hay and he eats all of it! is this normal? how much is 2 much and not enough? also what kind of snacks should we give him?
I'm so lost. please help. oh how long should his teeth be? and when should I get them filed?

Hello. I have had my pig, Fu, for about three years. She's happy and healthy. The other day at the store I bought a new food which boasted natural high fiber forage for guinea pigs. It looked pretty fun and so I brought it home and my piggie seems fine with it, eats it and enjoys it. I'm new to these pets so I have lots of questions.
But first..............I notice that most Guinea Pigs for adoption are male. Is this because they dont make as good of pets as the females? I'm just wondering why the males seem to be given up the most.

I recently got two female guinea pigs I was told one was about 2 years and one was 1 year, neither had been bred before and never been with males.
I didn't mind this and had no plans on breeding them so age wasn't an issue for me =)

I have two gorgeous two-month-old short haired female piggies, which I bought about 3-4 weeks ago.

I keep them in a 2x5 C&C cage, which I made myself. I have been looking forward to getting my guinea pigs for around six months and have really taken the time to research them properly and be as prepared as I could be.

Bathing tragedy

The most horrible thing happened this morning when my wife bathed our 6 month old male. All seemed well until she removed him from the sink and wrapped him up in a towel to dry. He seemingly got frantic, and then went limp. We are in shock and disbelief, but he is dead. Has this happened to anyone else? Are there any special precautions that are necessary when bathing cavies? What went wrong?

Building A Cage

So, i am very excited to build my girls their new cage. We have all the materials except for coroplast. We looked at five different places tonight and no luck. I know I am probably going to have to go to a sign store, but did anyone else have better luck for a good price? Also, what is the best way for keeping this type of cage clean?
