Kiln-dried pine is fine, but your vet is right about the rest. Un-dried pine and cedar have oils that can be toxic. Corn cob is not good, in part, because its
prone to go moldy. And clay? just too many things wrong with that.
Kiln-dried pine, aspen, and paper-based bedding, like Carefresh are all good choices (other than fleece, of course). |

Hi all you cavy slaves
I need to ask a silly question I keep hearing the word fleece for piggy bedding, may I ask what is a fleece and would it good for my two girls because the bedding they are using now is not working very well at all it's aspen and they are making a mess every time they take off running like a bat out of helland it gets in everything and every where their hair their food the bedding I used the first time was carefresh is far less messy for me, I need to know if the combination of fleece and carefresh would work or use the aspen I have with anything, because I have wasted money already on sani-chips, pine shaving for which is not healthy for them,I need help here-thank you |

As for how much bedding - it really depends on the type of bedding, the pee and pooing habits of your pigs, the size of the cage, the frequency you wish to clean the cage, whether you spot clean, and personal preferences. Some people put in a ton of bedding, so pigs wallow through it (until it gets packed down). Others put in just enough to cover the bottom of the cage, perhaps with more in the corners where they pee. Even fleece users have different ways of piling the fleece, and what they use for the underlayer. What one person swears by, another may hate. In the end, its whatever works for you and your pigs. You haven't been able to find kiln-dried pine? (You say pine is unhealthy for them, so it must be raw pine?) Depending on your setup, a Carefresh and fleece combination could be hard to clean. I would think the Carefresh would stick to the fleece. However, I dislike Carefresh, so I'm biased on that point. |

thanks for the info it will help alot, Right now I'll try anything, The fleece and the carefresh idear was just a thought, May I as you what you use, and
does your piggies make a mess like mine do, I just need to get away from using anything that makes a mess that all, even after the 2nd level is finish and
about the pine I bought Im not sure if it is is kiln-dried pine but I will ask the store I brought it from.thanks again

I have used pine bedding for all of my small animals for a long time, and this sounds so much better! My mother and I are going to be buying a chunk of fleece
in the next few days for our piggers! :) Thanks everybody here!
