How do you know if your guinea pig needs to lose weight? Hershey was weighed at the vet today when he got his nails cut, and he weighed 1400 grams.. And, when I searched to see how much a male pig should weight it says 900-1200 grams. Oh, and he's 2.

Boars can get to be pretty hefty. It all really depends on the bone structure. Some pigs can get as large as 3 to 3.5 pounds and not be overweight
(1300-1600g). So at 1400, he's pretty big. We had a pig weigh in at the Boston Pignic at over 1600g. He was HUGE! But it wasn't all fat - he had the
biggest paws and head I've ever seen on a guinea pig - so he was just large, not overweight.
From your pictures, Hershey does not look overweight. He's pretty active, too, is he not? Did the vet say anything about his weight? I wouldn't worry about it. |

Yeah, I have a pig that is pushing three pounds and was wondering the same thing. The thing that worries me is that I don't think he's quite done
growing! I think he's about seven months or so, but not really sure. He was super tiny when I got him in april. He's one of the youngest and biggest
pigs now! I think he's big and a little fat. I've noticed that he doesn't seem to run as much as the other ones, maybe on the lazy side. Every
time I weigh him he weighs more! When are they supposed to stop growing?
If I didn't know better I would almost think he was a pregnant girl!

Pigs normally hit their adult weight by the time they're 8-10 months old. So if he's not at his adult weight now, he should be soon!

My deceased boar Cinnamon was over 2 pounds and he was only 7 months or so and he was still growing! I've seen some pretty hefty boars in the pet stores
too so I think it's more likey for a boar to be bigger than a sow.

I dont think my previous boar ever got too heavy. Can't remember though since he had starting getting skinny 2 years before he died.
My sow is currently 1.42 pounds and 3 months old. |
