Re: guinea pig gender help (reply) Well, until others chime in, or you can get a vet to properly check your work, I would continue to check them, and compare them to mom. They certainly seem like sows. I've sexed a few adult boars, and when I've gotten a penis to pop out, there was no ... |

Re: guinea pig gender help (reply) They are both looking fairly female to me. Have you pressed right above the genitals? Have you felt a penile bone or get a penis to pop out? I compared them to the pics on cavyspirit. The Y shape looks fairly defined in both of those photos. Do you ... |

Re: Sally (reply) Could be that Phoebe is being more aggressive than usual, and Sally's getting tired of it? I know my pigs will change their normal sounds when one or the other gets tired of the treatment. Sometimes it sounds like they're pleading for the other just to ... |

Re: Sally (reply) They are cagemates. Colby is a boar but he is neutered. He is actually Phoebe's son. Phoebe usually tries to mount Sally when she goes into heat and we have had medical issues in the past with Phoebe and I think the vet may have mentioned ovarian cysts. ... |

Re: Sally (reply) Jog my memory -- are they all sows? How long has this been going on? I would guess that one or more of the sows are in heat -- it tends to drive everyone a little crazy. If everything calms down in the next 24-48 hours, I wouldn't worry about it much. ... |

Sally (topic) I have 3 pigs: Colby, Sally and Phoebe and they are all 3 years old. All day long Colby and Phoebe have been mounting Sally. They normally do this to her but now she makes a different squeal and I don't know if I should separate her from them. Sally is ... |

Re: Dealing with Bored Boar (reply) What a lucky spoiled piggy! I find a KaBob is challenging. Skewering pieces of fruit and veg on a stick and hanging it, so he has to wrestle to chew the food off it. |

Re: Cavy Gone Mad!! (reply) You are correct. Guinea pigs run around (sometimes called zoomies) and popcorn when they're happy and/or want to expend energy. Young pigs do this a lot - they grow out of much of it when they become adults. Enjoy it while you can! |

Cavy Gone Mad!! (topic) Recently i've notice my piggie running around and popcorning like crazy. My mom asked me to blog about it bc it seems as though she might be having a fit or very angry... I personally think she is just letting out some of her energy when no one is looking ... |

Re: Dealing with Bored Boar (reply) What a loaf! What he really needs is a buddy to keep him on his toes, but with his attitude, I can see why you haven't done that. My girls have slowed down on the coroplast chewing since I covered the edges with report binder clips. I found them at ... |

Dealing with Bored Boar (topic) I've owned guinea pigs for over 10 years and I've never had one as challenging as Bijou. I gave him the French name for "gem" not knowing how sophisticated he'd turn out to be! Jou Jou (zhu zhu) obsessively bites anything and everything he can get his ... |

Boy Stuff (reply) It was much more liquidy and opaque than that photo..perhaps it was a bit of urine with calcium in it? I will try and get a photo of their bits, they are so wriggley but are getting more and more friendly each day. They are a little tired of me prodding ... |

Re: Boy stuff? (reply) If you can get a clear photo of their genitals, I can check it out, to help confirm what you think you're seeing. This is the post with the photo I told you about: This came out of someone.... 10-12 oz is about 310grams, which according to my charts, ... |
