I currently do not require registration to post on the CavyMadness messageboard. I support an open environment, and would hate to have to force people to register or be moderated.

That said...a few notes on etiquette:

Keep your discussions to the point and your mind open. If you make it a habit to be rude and unhelpful to others, you will be banned.

Rude people will often be singled out by the "regulars" here at CavyMadness, since we're a tight-knit community.

No flaming.
No trolling.
No fake experts.

Do not litter the board with numerous posts in a small time period. Think of what you need to say, and post wisely.

Post in the most logical forum: a question about vitamin C belongs in General Care, not Friendly Chat.

DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS. IT'S RUDE.

Do not have casual conversations with your buddies. That's what chat rooms are for.

Cut the slang and run-on sentences. Though we're not the Grammar Gestapo, we do want to be able to read what you're saying without getting a headache.

Do not give out medical information unless you are DARN sure you know what you're talking about. Resident experts and rescuers on this board (GuineaGurus) have earned our respect through countless posts that have helped beginners.

Do not discuss who's doing what at other boards.

Cross-posting is fine, but don't be a spammer.

Speaking of spam, non-piggy posts are acceptable ONLY in the Friendly Chat forum. But keep them to a minimum.

Trolls and other nuisances will be banned.

I consider this board to have cooperative ownership among all its members. Because I cannot be here every day, I encourage feedback and suggestions from anyone who posts. I also welcome private emails alerting me to an offensive thread or presence, so that I may handle the matter.

What do I deem offensive, and who am I to determine what is offensive and what is not?
Offensive is basically anything that negatively affects learning or environment. No harm, no foul. I've been online since 1993. I've seen the evolution of the Internet, and I'm dedicated to preserving usability and community.

CavyMadness.com and this messageboard are targeted to NEW guinea pig people. This includes people who may have purchased guinea pigs at pet stores because they didn't know better, or those who don't realize that thousands of unwanted guinea pigs are euthanized each year due to careless breeding. Give them the benefit of the doubt and teach them how to be better piggy people. This is done through an exchange of information, NOT a flame war.

making the world a nicer place...one guinea pig at a time.
