In retrospect, I've named them all after Romans who committed suicide, and I'm not sure what that says about me, never mind the pigs. :-\

I named my first piggie Nero because of his black eyes. In my defence, I was seven and hadn't learned about the emperor. The second is Portia, after the
character in the Shakespeare play, and the third is Claudia because she's cloud-gray.

Olver joins the party! | #22
|
Today I was finally able to get a baby male cavy from the shelter. His name is Olver, again named after a book character, from the same series as Mat's
name came from. Olver is a kid that kinda follows Mat around, and since he's currently a tiny baby, and Mat is huge, it worked! I hate that they have to
wait 2 weeks to meet each other though!

Well, we started off with Jip and Janneke, two children's book characters. I liked the alliteration, so the pets that came after them were all named with a
J. I just sat down to write down names and Josa and Jula sounded best. Since Josa was a Texel, I thought that Josa was a good name for her. Jula had smooth
hair, so I thought that Jula would fit well. Jaap sounded nice and short and I just loved the name Jenna. She really has a mind of her own. Jasper the rabbit
is very cuddly and a lop-eared dwarf. I had the name Joris at first, but my husband thought that Jasper was a better name for our little furry friend. It is
funny how their names suit them now. At least, that is what I think.
I still have a list of names that I like for future guinea pigs and rabbits. All with a J. Mirjam |

I renamed my boy Lord Bistri Cinnamon aka "jiggy" Becausee cinnamon didn't realy fit his colors. He has a jigsaw type black and brown jiggsaw
puzzle type peice on his but, and he has one side of his face a brown patch with a black stripe on the other side.
A person on the cavy cages forum reconmended nameing him lord bistri because of the stripe. I didn't want to just forget about his oringal name so I just made one realy big name and a little nick name. He gets up and starts popcorning when I call his nick name for dinner or a replacement of hay and pellets. It's realy cute. Asria |

I have a black and white piggie, named Warrior.. It was the first thing that popped into my head - so I stuck with it. :P
I was going to originally get a female, and name her after a goddess', but I went with a boy instead. I was considering naming my boy Gabriel - but changed my mind. If I had gotten a girl, I would have named her either Gabrielle or a goddess from greek mythology.

All of mine are named after members of the city watch in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series; Carrot, Nobby, Angua, Cuddy (and the original was Vimes)

My current pig is named Senior Chorizo and his buddy that just passed away was called Ojo Rojo. It was just a random spanish theme. The first name means
(loosely) Mr. Pork-sausage and the second one is Red Eyes. (he was albino)

Milo, Paisley, Taffy, Bijou & Monet | #30
|
Milo was my first pig, given to me in 1997. He was a tan & white sheltie. He got his name as I desperately searched for one and my eyes landed on a
"Hi/Low" accompaniment tape I had on my desk. My mind immediately thought of "Milo" and it stuck. He died Memorial Day 2000.
Paisley & Taffy came as Christmas gifts from my parents in 2000. They were named after their colors. Paisley was a tricolor coronet (aka many colors), and Taffy was a non-self American, tan and white (matching my very sweet tooth). Only after a coworker's child pointed it out to me did I realize that they were the same colors as my cats: a calico and an orange tabby! Paisley died in 2004 and Taffy in 2006. Bijou & Monet were adopted on Friday! They were 'Speedy' and 'Spunky' at the shelter, but after adoption, it took me all weekend of trolling through naming websites to come up with their names. I'm French & Italian, so I was looking at similar names. Bijou means "gem" in French, and his black fur is so sleek and gleems like a gem. Monet is... I'm not sure what, but his fur behaves like an Abyssinian but with a tuft of fur sticking strait up off his tail bone, making me think of a brush. Combined with his coloring... and well, Monet just seemed much better than Guido! |

I got lucy first, i named her missy because when i got her my freind had said what are u gonna name this miss missy? i liked it so i named her missy. I
called my mom and told her i got a guinea pig and she told me i should let my nephew name her. Without hesitation he said lucy lol. When I got peanut I
orginaly named her ethal, like lucy and ethal like the I love lucy show, but wheni put lucy next "ethal" she was just so small so i named her peanut
cuz she looked like a small little peanut lol its funny because peanut is the one in charge i love my piggies so much they make me so happy.. |

I decided when I started getting guineas that I wanted to name them after "Final Fantasy" (the videogame) characters. My first guinea was Lulu but she died. Then there's my male Rikku, my female Mio, and my female Selphie. After my ex broke up with me and I moved back to Indiana I got another pig and decided to break the cycle and named her Absynthe. I kept telling my grandma that she reminded me of an obsidian guinea pig...and it sounded awkward in my head but I kept saying it and then I called her an absynth guinea pig...and knew that wasn't right either...so her name became Absynthe. They all have little nicknames though. Mio is baby girl and she looks like a cow so sometimes other people call her cow, Selphies my little monkey, and Absynthe is little one. Rikku doesn't really have a nickname but when I imitate what I think he's saying by his attitude it tends to be in a spanish accent. Sadly though, Rikku's no longer mine. |

andi allies wrote: That is hilarious because my fiance and I just recently adopted two piggies (about a week apart). The first one he wanted to name and guess what- he named
the piggy Rosco (well that's how he wanted to spell it) as in Rosco Coaltrain... as soon as I read this I laughed :) but the second piggy has yet to be
named.

My pigs are Gorgo and Reptilicus, both named after giant monsters. (To be precise--early '60s European monster movie characters.) They are so small and
cute that they seemed to need big scary names. Big, city-destroying monster names seemed to fit!
I rarely keep the names of my adopted animals. My girls didn't respond at all to their previous names anyway.

Well, I saw the kiddy show "Wonder Pets" which is pretty cute and it had a Guinea Pig named Lenny and since I was getting two, I wanted something
that went with it and I immediately thought of Lenny and Squiggy.

My guinea pig started with the name Weezer. Then I was convinced he was a girl and didn't think Weezer fit. And my sister always said "Gimmie
Pig" instead of Guinea Pig. So from then on I called "her" Gimmie. But it turns out he was a boy all along. But Gimmie is how it has stayed.

Well, like many people with peruvians, my first boy's name was Fabio. He was even a pretty blonde colour with a white collar. I ended up calling him
Fatty/Fat Boy most of the time anyways. He passed May 1, 2006. I have another girl who I named Annie because when I was driving home with her one of my
favourite singers was on the radio, Annie Lennox. Then I got Wayne. Wayne is a girl. I can tell she's a cross breed, she's got texel and something else
in her. When I got her she had a sort of psuedo mullet. Her head and shoulders were all short hair, about the middle of back and down to her bum was all
loooooooong curly hair. So it was business up front, party in the back! And my friend had just gotten a pig too and named his Garth. AND my most favourite
movie of all time is Wayne's World so it was fate. Eventhough she's a girl.
