We have a 8-10 (we assume) month old little boar who started showing signs of discomfort and straining yesterday afternoon. We've had one other pig in the
past who'd experienced this blockage... He eventually became dehydrated and succumbed to it (sadly.) So when this showed up, we got very worried. There
aren't any cavy knowedgable vets nearby to our knowledge, so I'm not sure where else to turn.
His tummy is only stiff in one small area, on the underside. It's obviously painful for him for us to massage it, hoping to help it, so we've been unable to do so. We used some vegetable oil along the inside of his behind in the hopes of lubricating it... and we manually aide him in removing the waste when it gets right to the end and needs some extra help to remove. He's had some diarhea while straining... we assumed it was because he was pushing around whatever it is that's blocking him. He passed one large (soft clay-like textured) ball of stool already, and it seems there's one more. (He's sore, probably from straining all day yesterday, and has obviously had to take breaks between pushing. We feel so awful for him, he's miserable.)
We've been keeping an eye on him, and keeping him in his cage in the hopes that he would drink, but we don't know if he has or not... which could be a big problem. We're not sure if we should take a syringe and attempt to force some fluid intake or not.
He's alert and able to move comfortably from what we can tell, but knowing how quickly things can turn for the worst, we're very worried and willing to try whatever we can to help him. I'd much appreciate any advice, or shared experiences on this matter.
