Does anyone know what chirping means? My young piggie, Rosemary, makes noises that sounds like a chicken clucking. It sounds like she is talking to herself and
she does it quite frequently. Last night I had to move her to the living room because she was talking so much to herself (and I needed to sleep). Usually when
she is making the noise she is moving about the cage or eating, so I tend to think it's an indication she's in a good mood, but I can't find any
info about it. It's definitly not cooing.

Its one of those great mysteries. Best theory I've heard is that they're trying to contact the Mother Ship. Check out GuineaLynx::Behavior - Chirping.
But it sounds like you're describing a different noise. The clucking noise (my boyfriend describes it as "whoort whoort whoort whoort ...") is a traveling noise. Pigs don't see well, and will often make noise when traveling, so everyone knows where everyone is at. They usually do it when they're having fun (or in the case with my pigs, are up to no good). Cinnamon would make a kind of "chut chut" sound when he was running around during floor time. Elise and Athena are both doing this now when
they're in their cage eating or just walking around. Some times it sounds like they have water boiling in their tummies. It's low and quiet but
really repetitive. Is this the same sound your guy makes or is it different? And what does it mean when they make this sound.

The chut-chut noise is often called "traveling sounds." Guinea pigs don't see well, and they'll often talk to each other when they're on
the move, just so they know where each other are.

Oh this cracked me up! I was listening to the sounds, and while I couldn't hear them all that clearly, the boys could, and that got Monet going - thinking
there was another pig in the room. This, in turn, got Bijou all excited, and now they're up to no good! lol
Unfortunately, I've never heard a guinea pig chirp. Makes me sad! |

I had a solo piggy and I heard all those noises but the chirping.
I also got screams out of my piggy though :P Very loud high pitched screaming. That only happened when he was getting his nails cut and he didn't want to be on his back anymore :P He would just open his mouth and start screaming like he was being murdered. I was like geez nothings wrong with you :P |
