My pig has stones. What can I do to make him comfy? |

We only noticed it a few days ago, and we thought it was diarrhea, but then we saw blood in his urine. We made a vet's appointment, but it's for
tuesday, and he's in pain. He used to be fat, but in three days, you can see his ribs, he's losing weight so rapidly. What can I do to help?

So he has diarrhea and blood in the urine? This is two different symptoms of two different conditions, then.
Blood in urine can be a urinary tract infection (UTI) or a symptom of stones. Can you bump this up to an emergency appointment to get it earlier? If it is a UTI, as painful as it is, he can make it until Tuesday..... I've had pigs get stuck like that. Its not fun, but not fatal. The diarrhea and significant weight loss has me worried. He needs to be hand fed now. Is he eating at all? What is his daily diet consist of? What kind of foods is he interested in right now? What kind of pellets does he get, and does he get hay? Wait. I just re-read your title.... do you know he has stones? If you're sure, you need to watch to make sure he's peeing on a regular basis. If he stops peeing, its possible a stone has blocked his urethra, and that is definitely an emergency situation. And for what to do, and how much to feed for hand feeding, check out Guinealynx::Hand Feeding. If he's lost enough weight to feel it like that, he needs to eat. He is obviously not feeling well. Please keep us posted. |

He isn't peeing!!! And the vet is closed till Tuesday. Do I go to another vet? And he isn't eating at all. I put his pigloo an inch away from his nose,
and he didn't move to go in. We are syringe feeding him cranberry juice, but he won't eat solids. Is there any liquid food type thing that we can give
him?

Never mind. He collapsed, and we took him to the vet, who told us there was nothing we could do. He has been put down.

He sounded very sick from your first message. Guinea pigs are so tough because they hide illnesses so well. By the time they start exhibiting real symptoms,
they are very ill. I feel stupid when I jump and haul my pigs off to a vet at the first sign of trouble, when with other pets you can do a wait-and-see. Its
not fair. It really isn't.
I am very sorry you lost him. |
