Hi, My guinea pig Mo is a peruvian/abby mix (i think). Mainly she has long fur that grows all over her head all crazy like. I have been noticing that she
shakes her head a lot. I am assuming it is so she is able to see better because of all the hair in her face. Or just to get it out of the way. I just wanted to
check and make sure that this is normal because I have never had a long haired pig before. Thanks! -Juli

Head shaking is often a symptom of an ear infection.... but I've not had a long haired pig before.
I've seen people cut bangs on their long-haired pigs, or clip it back with a small hair clip. You may try either of these to confirm its the hair that's bothering her, and not an infection. Otherwise, she should be checked by a vet. Hard to tell! |

I would trim the hair off her face. I have a sheltie but her hair grows away from the face so she doesn't really have this problem. But I am constantly
trimming her hair especially from the back area as it gets quite grotty. Just be very gentle. I remember a vet telling me that any hair around animal's
faces should be trimmed as it can only annoy them, just as it does humans. He used to trim it away from the eyes of old english sheepdogs and he said that the
dogs always seemed much happier after the trim.
So it won't hurt to trim the hair and see what happens. If she stops shaking his head then it was probably the problem, if she doesn't best to take her to a vet.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. I had trimmed it a little, but I think it is still long enough to get in her way, I will trim some more and see if she stops.
She has a vet appt on March 8 so I will have them check her ears thoroughly. Her face is really cute too so it wouldn't hurt to see it better! hehe.
