I normally like to take the pigs outside during the nice weather to graze on the grass, but a few weeks ago I used "weed and feed" on my lawn so I am
leery about letting them eat the grass at this time. Like I said it has been a few weeks and it has rained since then. Any opinions if this could be harmful
to them?

The problem is, the weed and feed gets into the plant itself. Even if its no longer "on" the grass, or on the surface of the ground, it is now part
of the plant itself.
My dad used to stagger weed and feeding the lawn, front yard to back yard, to make sure there was some grass the pigs could eat. The part of the lawn that had been fertilized would be off limits for a couple of months for the pigs. It can be harmful. Pigs have died from toxins in weed killer. How long does it last in the plant? I don't know. Personally, we used to make sure the grass got at least 2-4 mowings after a feeding before putting the pigs on it, and we never had a problem with it. But I am uncertain what is safe or not. Safest thing is to leave a patch of grass, untreated, for them to be on. Hope this helps. |
