Apparently he's stuck on not having anymore animals. I've always taken care of everything so I don't see the problem! I'll keep updated on whether or not I end up being able to get them. Posts: 3566 07/11/08 04:21 PM Moderator	They look awfully big for 4 weeks old. I also can't see their genitals to see if they look boar-ish. The one shot that was the whole pig didn't look identifiably male. I would certainly give them a good looking over if you do get these two. I would take whatever the seller is telling you with a very large grain of salt. Working link: Two male guinea pigs. Ah - looking back at the post - they're at least three months old now - the post was back early June. Although the photos were dated from early June. They just look big for their supposed age. Poor pigs, if they've been living in that basket all of this time!

Posts: 85 07/11/08 10:45 PM	Oh they aren't living in a laundry basket anymore. It was temporary until she was able to get another cage. She has 8 guinea pigs right now. I don't know if I'll be able to get them :/ My dad really doesn't want anymore animals in our house. I got all my current and previous animals with out ever asking :P They said our house is too small for more an :/imals (which I disagree with) So there will be nothing to fill my piggy void. Unless I can do more convincing. Which I will keep trying. I'm sad that no one else has contacted her :/ I just want those piggies to have a home

Posts: 85 07/17/08 02:48 PM	So after much begging, bribing and bargaining. I've made a deal and I'm allowed to have one guinea pig. The seller with the two boys also has 3 girls. So I'm going to adopt one of the girls so then the two left can keep each other company. This is going to happen on saturday. So I'll post pics of my new piggy sometime then! :D

Posts: 85 07/19/08 07:33 PM	She's quite the scared piggy right now. I would be too being switched from a completely different life! She lived with her Mom and sister. She squealed the least when taken away so I chose her to take home. So many animals at the girls house! She also had a very nice long haired guinea pig (peruvian?)that was split right down the middle half black and half white (she saved him from being fed to a snake!) Roselyn looks very healthy. She runs into the pigloo when I come near her cage but if I'm further away she sneaks out to eat pellets and veggies. So I think she is doing quite good at the moment. I went to four stores today looking for cubes and coroplast. I found the cubes at the last store and gave up on the coroplast. I bought two boxes of cubes because i was so happy to have finally found them. All they had was black though. So for now I've taken the store cage and used that as my base. The problem being that its about 1 and a half cubes wide so i had to overlap. But my ideas for the second level may not be feasible this way. I'll keep looking for the coroplast. Anyway I'm really happy to have her and hope she soon begins to trust me and becomes very happy too!

Posts: 147 07/19/08 10:13 PM	Jewelee, Roslyn is soooo adorable! Hooray for your adoption. Is your dad going to let you get her a friend? If you can't find the coroplast (I don't know how sign stores work in Canada...) you could try using the linoleum. You can get that for an inexpensive price too. Most flooring companies even have scrap that they'll just give you. On the cavy cages website they have a forum that will link you to stores in your area if you're having trouble finding one. Good luck finding the materials!

Posts: 85 07/20/08 06:19 PM	Thanks everyone :) I think she looks pretty too. Still quite anti social. I took out the pigloo so she stops being so scared whenever something moves and running back in. She seems to be fine without it. Less jumpy now. I know its going to take some time till she warms up to people but I'm willing to be patient of course! She eats a lot! My previous guinea pig never ate this much :P She loves veggies. Leaf lettuce, carrots, cucumber and apple is what shes had so far. Don't think she likes bell pepper though. I'm planning the second level of the cage so that she has more room to explore etc. My Dad said he has coroplast where he works! So I think I will be in luck. Posts: 85 07/21/08 08:04 AM	No WheeksandSqueaks I can't get Roselyn a friend :/ So far she doesn't seem to miss the company of her family. She seems to be pretty independent. But still quite scared. I got her to eat veggies from my hand today though :) Perhaps if I move out within the next two years I can get her a friend.

Posts: 85 07/21/08 07:45 PM	I pet her today in a way that she really liked and she purred for me :D Now she treats me different since I'm able to pet her like that! The level of trust is growing! I have the igloo out while im at home or else she isnt social at all. I want to get some other toys for her cage though and im still the process of expanding the cage, Since the cage is somewhat smaller than the standard I think it would be best to try something like Pooksied's set up where the second level is just above the first. Posts: 85 07/24/08 10:48 AM	So Roselyn seems to be adjusting well. She is more friends. Still startles quite easily but runs away less when I go to pick her up. Shes only antisocial when the Pigloo is in. I've been reading past posts etc. And it got me thinking that things could be very different and it could have possibly been possible for Roselyn to get impregnated prior to me having her. I don't think she is. But its a scary thought! Because the previous owner said she separated the babies when the boys started humping their sisters and Mom. So could have been already late by then. They would have been about a month old then when she separated them Because she said they were Born around May 2nd and she had her posting up June 4th(that included tales of humping...) It has been 50 days since then. So I would know if she was. But just goes to show how easily that could have happened! So Roselyn doesn't like oranges or tomatoes! I want her to eat the high vitamin C things! Shes a funny piggy. I flipped her pigloo over so she would stop hiding and she just went in sitting in it upside down. So I put in a towel and a makeshift tarp. She seems to love it haha. I'm going to work on the cage this weekend and try to construct the second level!

The good news is - she's normal weight for a sow her age, so its likely she was separated in time. On the other hand, its not a bad thing to put her on pregnancy watch. If she is pregnant, she will gain rapidly, and more than the 1.5-ish ounces per week. The gotcha is if they were not honest about keeping her separated from the boars this entire time. I had a pair of sows that gave me looks like I was trying to poison them with tomatoes the first time I gave them some. Then a year later, I tried again, and they wolfed them down, while giving me dirty looks for holding out so long. So just because she won't eat things now, keep trying, because she may figure out that they're good to eat.

Yeah in the girls add she had said she separated when she noticed the boys humping the girls. She did have them separate when I saw them. She had 3 cages stacked up and each would pull out like a tray and there were guinea pigs in each "tray" She had one for the boys and one for the girls. Then a cage of rats on top. And beside a cage with two more guinea pigs. Yeah I guess I'll keep trying oranges and tomatoes. Recently I've been reading articles about Guinea Pigs in Peru. It breaks my heart every time! I can't believe people would eat our little cute friends :( And have a festival of eating them! So sad :(

Posts: 3566 07/25/08 06:20 AM Moderator	Depends on how many pups a sow has as to whether you'll see it or not. I've read lots of stories of people just waking up one morning to find extra pigs in their cage. If the boars and the sows have truly been separated since early June, then given her weight, the way that she looks, and the fact she'd be well into the pregnancy, I would say she's not pregnant. She doesn't have that hippy rotundness I've seen.

She probably only looks fat to me too because Gimmie was so skinny :( Poor poor guinea pig. At least no one ate him! Maybe I'll take more pictures tonight of her just in case..
