I have one boar that is only 4 weeks old. So far I havn't notice any smell from him. I've heard from some people that they can have a strong musky
smell, but others say they don't. If they do, is it just when you have multiple boars in the same cage and they are trying to prove who is dominant that
they . . . release the smell? Or is it supposed to be for the benefit of sows? I'm trying to decide if I should keep the boy or not. I have 4 girls.
(They are separated.) If he does start smelling, will neutering help? I've thought about neutering him so that he can be right in with the girls and I
won't have to worry about trying to keep them separate for the rest of their lives! But I've heard that neutering is dangerous and I don't want to
risk his life.

I have a boar named Bubba who isn't smellie at all!
I would ask alot of questions when it comes to nuetering and your reasons for it. Hopefully others here will respond! I recently adopted Bubba from the Humae Society and he is neutered. As a result of the surgery, however, he developed 2 abcesses! I had to take him in to get surgery and two weeks later he developed one more as a result of dead tissue getting infected. I pick him up today and was told he is doing great BUT if it were up to me I would never had wanted him to get the surgery to begin with. |

I think they only smell periodically, maybe when marking territory?

My boar never made a smell in his cage. Sometimes however if I put him down on the carpet he would run around and do this thing where it looked like he was
wiping his bum. And then it look like he had peed. But I suppose that could have been the boar scent.
A couple of times he would do it when he jumped over my hand. So it would get all over me :P Overall though, no smell that I was aware of on a regular basis. |

Cinnamon was the most foul thing I had ever smelled or witnessed. When he lived with Pepper their cage smelled like a guinea pig locker room no matter how much
I cleaned. Floor time was the worst. He would come out and run and run and run and then he would flip his sac open and start doing the dragging thing. His
favorite places to mark were me, under the futon and behind the one nightstand. Pepper had a musk to him but he didn't mark at all that I was aware of.
When Cinnamon and Pepper were on the couch, Cinnamon was a mounting machine. He would get so worked up he would ejaculate all over. (I think that's what it
was.) It was white and sticky. And yes, they were both boys. When Pepper died Cinnamon didn't really do it at all during floor time or on me. He would purr
and rumble but he didn't do the marking thing. I think it depends on the pig in question though.
