Hi everyone, I've been browsing this forum for a while but this is my first real post. I currently have two cavies, one is a year old and one 6 months...
and are spoiled as can be!
My first question: we are going to be adding our first kitten, a sphynx (hairless) to our home in a couple of weeks. I visited the kitten at the breeders and he is so small, much smaller than my piggies. When we bring him home should he be allowed to interact with the pigs during floor time (supervised of course)? The breeder said if they grow up together there shouldnt be any problems, but i know cavies are prey and cats are predators. I've googled it and there is mixed opinions, so I'm asking those of you with personal experience. My pigs live in separate cages (with lids, so not cat accessable) but get out for floor time 2 times a day for an hour a piece (not including lap time). I would love for them to get along!
My second concern is that I sexed one of my cavies wrong, I know for sure that my first cavy, Nugget, is a male, he's gone through puberty and you can definately tell his 'manhood'. my second baby Chai I had assumed was a male because i thought only boars had the little nub above their Y.... but as time has gone by, they look so different, and I thought it was so strange that Nugget always was rubblestrutting Chai..... I thought his teenage years were confusing him, but tonight during lap time I noticed Chai's belly has grown quite a bit over the past couple weeks and I turned him over and noticed his 'bits' were not as similar as I once thought! So do both sexes have the nub in their privates? the general area on chai is smaller though, hes about half a pound heavier than nugget .
Sorry for the super long post! I appreciate any replies.
