The Animal Refuge League will be having its 1st Annual Pignic on

Sunday, June 14, 2009

to benefit the small animal medical needs for the shelter.

Where? at the shelter: 449 Stroudwater Street, Westbrook, Maine
When? Sunday, June 14, 11-2
Who? If you love guinea pigs or have guinea pigs, you're invited!
Registration: $5 per guinea pig (donations encouraged)

I will involved in the planning (it was my idea, after all, as no one was familiar with a "pignic" or heard of cavymaddness before) and so far we're planning on:

  • salad bar for the guinea pigs AND the humans
  • raffles
  • costume contest
  • shelter tours
  • guinea pigs available for adoption (if we have some in the shelter)
other rescue groups will be invited. It will be a first of its kind event in Southern Maine. We hope it will be well received!

The Animal Refuge League takes in dozens of small animals every year, from rabbits, to guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, degus, ferrets, chinchillas, mice, and rats. It does its best to neuter and spay the larger animals, but money is also needed for emergencies, such as when a bunny broke its leg while hopping about the Rabbit Room, the guinea pig who arrived almost dead from mange, or the rats who are more adoptable after they are altered. This event will hopefully become the signature annual fundraiser for all these litter critters!
