Pooksie:
I have to tell you, a messageboard like this is great for bouncing off ideas. While I've done lots of reading and research, and learned a ton from being with my piggies, there is always more to learn and always new ideas that one person might think of but another might not. Popcorning, and happy behaviour was not something I thought of and I'm glad you did.
For the last while, I really watched those two. And, you were absolutely right. I think perhaps the shaking was from over excitement. He does laps, and boy is he ever popcorning. One night he was doing it so high he was hitting the lid of his cage. I took both him and Charlie out of the cage to provide more room for them to play, and boy did they ever. That guinea pig was jumping on Charlie, Charlie was doing it back, they were running in circles, and generally making the happy chirping noises they sometimes make when petted, only in stereo sound. I had such a laugh to watch them. They weren't fighting for sure - I've seen plenty of that, and this definitely wasn't it. Those funny episodes I have now nicknamed as Snickers having a 'power hour'. I've been removing him from the cage when he does it, only to provide more room so he is not limited to the confines of the small cage they are in. He uses the room, too. It's very comical to watch and I'm glad you made that suggestion to me. They're older, I think. They're huge, they're the size of small cats. I have two more piggies in another cage who are well over a year old, and they still popcorn, especially Sam. I'm fortunate, from what I read, to have piggies that still get that excited. I think Snickers is just happy to be in a home where he can relax, as you suggested. If the shaking is not from over excitement, then I'm thinking a bit of soft purring. I have another piggy who I have a couple of 'sweet spots' found on, and he makes a funny vibration sound with a body vibration as his form of purring. I think this might be the same thing, but without the funny noise.
