Hello all!

I'm new to the Cavy craze and I am totally IN LOVE with my two girls! I named them (well my daughter did...she's 23) Boo (from Monsters Inc.) and Eve from (Wall-E). The girls are about 3 months old now and we're all still getting used to each other.

I've gone shopping crazy for the 2 little ones...my daughter thinks i've gone mad...LOL. I bought the girls a C&C cage...2 X 3...to give them plenty of space for running around in case I can't give them the floor time everyday...2 hidey houses...and a crinkle tube which they LOVE. And of course the proper food from Petco...Kaytee Timothy Complete and Orchard Grass which Eve LOVES. I also give them lots of fresh veggies (usually twice a day)...they love salad cucs and cherry tomatoes and baby carrotts, and Boo loves green and red peppers and broccoli. I think i'm spoiling them rotten...but they're so damn cute : )

The only thing I don't know if i'm going about wrong is when I hold them. They are both still pretty skittish...and the only way I can usually catch them to pick them up is to corner them in their hidey house...or in the chew tube! Boo will go into her hidey house and I can reach right in and pick her up while i'm sitting on the floor...and i'll just sit there and pet her and talk to her but she still seems to be a bit nervous and scared. She seems like she's purring but it's more of a trembling sound as i'm stroking her. I know i'm this BIG huge giant to her/them but I hope i'm not traumatising them by picking them up the way I do. Boo want's to go...go...go when I pick her up and try to lay down with her on my lap on my bed. She doesn't like to sit still...so I usually just hold her in front of the cage for a bit, across my arm, and then put her back in her cage. Eve is much quieter once I catch her...I can lay on the bed with her on my belly and she'll just lay there and be petted for a half hour/fourty five minutes!!!

But...neither of them make any of the guinea pig happy sounds yet...is this normal? I still don't hear any weeeeks from them when i'm holding them...and I don't want to frighten them...but I pick each of them up once a day! Usually after supper time. They get all excited over dinner...right after I clean the cage and put fresh paper shavings down they know the grass is coming and start jumping up and down...I LOVE seeing them all excited. Then I go get a few treats from the fridge and watch them eat their supper. They'll eat treats from my hand...Boo especially...and they'll eat the grass from my hand too. Then this is when I usually pick them up for a bit. I think i'm doing all the right things but I don't want to upset them by not handling them properly. I hope they get to trust me more and get to be more vocal as the sounds i've heard on the guinea linx site are soooo cute.

Anyway...glad I found this place to check in and chat with other cavy owners in case I have a silly question or to see how your furry friends are doing! image
