First, I'd read through the links on FAQs - Links to good answers, especially the Social Life links -- they will help you ensure you're really getting boars, and what to expect (boys don't necessarily fight, but you need lots of space, and be prepared for when they get pissy at adolescence).

I can't answer much, personally, about the boar smell. They can be quite strong, but it tends to die down once they're not so excited over stuff. Having a large enough cage is *key* for both keeping the peace and controlling the smell.

Its truly up to you which you want to deal with (boars vs sows). They each have their pros and cons. If you were to get an older (i.e adult) bonded pair of anything (boars or sows), you're more likely to have a peace, if that's really a concern. Even sows can have a falling out, and it tends to happen in the 6-10 month-old range.

Its not so much if the piggies like the cats, but how much, and in what ways, the cats like the pigs. Some cats are very laid back, and have no problems coexisting with guinea pigs. Others, though, see them as food or play things, and require the pigs to have a sturdy, cat-proof cage, to make sure there are no unfortunate accidents.
