As far as I know, UTIs are not caused by any type of bedding. Its possible it could be caused if she's sitting in wet bedding for periods of time -- but
that has more to do with how often you change the bedding, rather than the type of bedding it is.
If there are reoccurring UTIs, it could be caused by other factors than the environment. Any pig that I've had with multiple UTIs either had tumors (or something pressing against the bladder) or a bladder problem such as cystitis or bladder sludge. |

there has been some sludge (the x ray recently showed nothing) so ive been watching him but since he had an abscess removed last year hes had them every few
months. hes gradually getting better, i read some where that sometimes changing the bedding helped. sometimes the sawdust gets stuck to him which im not happy
about so i think carefresh shall be the bedding of choice. i spot check him every day so its not that the bedding is left long

How long is he on the antibiotics each time? How often does the UTI reoccur (after the previous course of antibiotics)? (and, I'm sorry, remind me again
how old he is?) Is it possible he's not totally kicking the infection, and its just coming back? What does your vet have to say about the frequencies of
the UTIs?
I think carefresh will stick to him just as much, but that's certainly easy enough to buy and try. If the problem is caused by bedding sticking to him, switching to fleece may do the trick. |

hes given a 3 week course i think and it does the trick for 4 months, he is 4 in november. The vet is keeping a close eye on him and he had an x ray last week
that showed nothing, it was suggested he wasnt drinking enough water and sometimes that the case but he gets veg. the vet is suprised that hes been in so much
and to be honest there suprised hes alive.
a vet on line suggested care fresh but theres a shop near by that has fleece so i think ill try that instead. |

Certainly a three week course should be enough to kick it. And the fact it takes 4 months to come back, that seems to indicate a new infection.
Oh, its amazing how much one pig can visit the vet. Bad pigs! |

It should wick through pretty quickly. If its puddling on top, it probably indicates the fleece has been treated. From what I've read, the cheaper the
fleece, the better it works (because they tend not to treat it with any water proofing). Also, it should be washed a few times before using (to help with the
wicking). Also, you shouldn't use dryer sheets with it, because that will also interfere with the wicking.
Fleece may feel damp in some spots, if its a heavily peed-on area. But you should not have standing water. |
